“Entertaining and Informative” – that’s what my video series is all about.
For the past 15 years, I’ve presented programs at the New Jersey Record Bash, the Oceanside and Baldwin (NY) Public Libraries and other venues, to much acclaim.
The shows contain rare film and television clips of great American jazz and pop singers and musicians, from the 1920s to the 1960s.
My presentations, which include live narration and Q&A, run from one to two hours in length. Topics to choose from include:
BROADWAY/FILM MUSICAL HIGHLIGHTS OF YESTERYEAR
GREAT JEWISH MUSICAL PERFORMERS
GREAT MID-CENTURY AFRICAN-AMERICAN POPULAR AND JAZZ PERFORMERS
GREAT ORCHESTRAS OF THE BIG BAND ERA
POPULAR MUSIC PERFORMANCES OF THE 1930s, 40s, 50s or 60s
STARS OF EARLY TELEVISION
SWING DANCING THROUGH THE DECADES
VINTAGE JEWISH COMEDY
As a Jazz and Pop Culture Historian & Researcher, and a Film, Video & Recorded Media Specialist, I’ve also produced and written liner notes for 100+ CDs and albums for Rhino, Soundies, RCA, Stash, Vintage Jazz Classics. Verve and other record companies.
If I was to think of one person who has a combination of the greatest knowledge of classic 20th Century American entertainment, the largest collection of video/films, and a very robust sense of humor, it would be Dave Weiner. His annual June shows at the Record Collector’s Bash are something I look forward to for months – truly! Dave manages to surprise and delight as hard-boiled a crew of “experts” as us – he’ll be dynamite for your event.
Dave’s programs are always a delight …. well constructed, insightful, and entertaining. With more variety than one could imagine, his programs leaves us all with a huge smile on our faces, a swinging lilt to their step, and much more knowledge about the subject than when they entered the venue. Dave’s programs are not to be missed!
Mark Cantor – is the curator of the Celluloid Improvisations Music Film Archives, the largest privately held collection of jazz, blues and popular music on 16mm sound film.
David J. Weiner is a great historian and writer, a true authority on American popular music and entertainment. He’s always been a major inspiration and mentor to me as well. I would personally attend every show or presentation that he ever does!

He also is the author of nine books including the award-winning A BIOGRAPHICAL GUIDE TO THE GREAT JAZZ AND POP SINGERS, SINATRA: THE SONG IS YOU, and JAZZ SINGING. He has written over 600 liner notes for compact discs, received ten Grammy nominations, and appears frequently on television and other documentaries.
David Weiner is a long-time collector of jazz music and is a recognized expert and historian on popular and jazz music of the last century. His professionally authored and edited video presentations at the annual Jazz Record Collectors Bash in New Jersey are the highlight of each year’s conference.

He has conducted classes on American Popular Song at the University of Maryland’s Legacy College and is an adjunct faculty member of Prince George’s Community College, presenting classes on American Popular Song through the College’s adult ed program.
